The Adelaide Salon is a living conceptual ‘dialogue’, where ‘the arts’ and humanity step forth on the new creative and philosophical evolution of our ‘age’.
Our vision draws on the 17th-century origins of the French salon, where private gatherings brought together art, literature, philosophy, and politics with intimate conversation. Guided by the spirit of the Salonnières who nurtured cross-disciplinary exchange and helped inspire the Enlightenment’, we reignited this tradition feeling there was never a better and more appropriate moment.
At the heart of The Salon is a commitment to ‘Liberte’ of mind and expression, to not be defined by definition or perceived constraints, but to redefine the current artistic and living environment here and beyond.
This is what makes The Adelaide Salon unique: not a gallery, not a theatre, not a lecture hall, but a ‘space’ where life and art become one, where curiosity and hope are celebrated, and personal and collective energy dance together in creative harmony.
We cherish the intimacy, originality, and the beauty of risk shared by the artists with the audience. We encourage the intellectually curious, nurture independent culture, conversation; explorers and patrons who wish to support and nurture the future of all the arts and how we live today.
Our guests and patrons arrive for an experience and leave with the taste of new ideas, philosophies, art, and friends. This taste and exhilaration of having been part of something different, creates an appetite for more, which we believe should be shared and encouraged in the wider world.
The Adelaide Salon resonates with historic continuity. From its home in Adelaide Crescent, it revives the ‘salon’ as a living cultural laboratory, a place where the clear reverberations of it’s history meets contemporary creativity, supporting this important ‘dialogue’ and experimentation to flourish outside the structures of traditional institutions.
We seek to build a cultural ecosystem with ambition for Brighton & Hove to rival and encourage other cities here and abroad: bold, experimental, and rooted in human connection, giving artists the freedom to create, the curious and collectors the chance to discover, and audiences the invitation to belong.
